There's no reason why church business gets a free ride as citizens are burdened by property taxes. In tough economic times the federal government can't afford to lose trillions more taxes through religious affiliation with state. The official federal church exemption started in 1894. This inequality began with Emperor Constantine under control of his mother Helena. Modern carbon 14 testing proves her wrong regarding her collection of holy relics she said dated back to the time of Jesus of Nazareth. By the way, Constantine murdered his wife and his son. So much for holiness, business as usual.

Exempting religious property from taxes violates separation of church and state. through the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. These same lost funds mean government subsidies.  Federal exemptions also mean non-religious people support these faiths even those who don't believe in their dogmas. In every religious service the leaders stress only their way is the right way to heaven, pie in the sky when you die.

Social service is no excuse for tax exemption, according to Mark Twain. Many businesses and people are charitable and don't have advantage of privileges such as tax exemptions.
