Without going into the entire history of the word race that started in the vast Roman Empire when emperors raced salves (often prisoners of religious wars) to their deaths to keep the people entertained so they wouldn't dwell on their oppression. The Hebrew Bible also mentions the word race regarding men physically racing one another.
However, the best and most simple answer to the question regards are vision. All human beings have the same tone of complexion on the palms of their hands and the soles of their feet, Now that evolution has been proved, we must remember humanity evolved as sea creatures, with white-bellied fish eventually emerging from the sea by hugging rocks and the shore to get flying food. This developed into fish with feet, like dog fish. And as primates developed they first walked on all four feet. For millions of years the sun never tanned their skin. Anthropologists now say it takes at least 20,000 years for tanned skin to become part of our DNA. As people moved away when the ice ages receded, it took another 23,000 years for dark skin to turn light.
So this is why people thinking they are the supreme beings by being "white" lynched and killed the dark complected people. So why are we sill in an insane mode when it comes to human race that a German, Johan Friedrich Blumenbach, invented the classification hierarchy of color-coded skin, what provoked Hitler and the Nazi party to gas 6 million Jews and others for their dark skin.
When I was growing up Caucasians and American Africans were not permitted to marry one another. But now that they can, each generation is becoming lighter. In a matter of a few generations no one is going to be able to distinguish one person from another regarding their complexion.
Nobel Paureate Pearl Buck chided Americans for calling Asians yellow. America's indigenous people are no longer called redskins, except for the Washington D.C. football team. We have risen above this childish name-calling, but we still are hung up on the most rival physical profiling of all, "blacks and whites." Get over it! Man invented human race and racism. We are all one people undivided by different shades of skin. Ethnic or nationality is the only sane way to describe our selves without evil thinking in terms of silly skin differences. Nobody divides one another by the color of our eyes. So loosen up and be happy we are alive at least for a short term on beautiful Earth, capitalized for respect.
