FORBES ROAD IS THE FIRST MILITARY ROAD IN THE U.S. BUILT IN 1758, FIVE YEARS AFTERN GEN. BRADDOCK'S DEFEAT CAUSED BY BRITISH ARMY NOT KNOWING AMERICAN TERRITORY

Years ago I researched this first (Gen. John Forbes) military road in America built in 1758 and had a bronze plaque made for on it, authorized by the Westmoreland Historical Society.  The British in their bright scarlet redcoats marched out along the Monongahela River in PA in an open field, now the town of Braddock. This was in 1755 when the army was defeated and Braddock shot and buried on the road. He was in charge of this primitive highway on his quest to removet the French at Fort Duquesne later called Fort Pitt.

When any army puts its boots on foreign land the opposition has the advantage because it knows the territory. In this case the British especially were not familiar with indigenous tactics and strategy. Native Americans were the first to invent camouflage clothing, surprise attack and stealth.

Years later West Point on the Hudson River studied the native techniques for its own usage. We live and we learn.
