A historic letter in recent years has been documented concerning a group of Yale students stationed at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. They decided to steal the skull of Geronimo for the Yale secret Skull & Bone society associated with the university.
Dear Ones,
The heirs of this great mogul sued the university. Whether the skull was that of the chief buried on the military property or not, this irresponsible behavior showed disrespect and racism against the original Native Americans. Prescott Bush was the name given as the instigator of the prank.
The young men from the university's ROTC were in training to be shipped over seas to fight in WW I. Grave robbing was not part of the agenda at this military base.
