A PEACE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC

Dear Ones,

More women and gays need to be elected to powerful government administrations' –those who are nurturing and interested in the fine arts instead of brutal aggression,.  Until this transformation occurs, peace is a long time a comin' as we yearn for the times when our hearts were young and gay,

Helene Smith © Copyright Lyrics 2008

Mine eyes have seen the misr'y of the wars of the world,
They are tramplin' through the vineyards where the grapes of wrath are stored.
We have seen the fatal lightnin' of war's terrible swift sword.
Huzzah! Peace is marching on.

Chorus

Glory, glory Earth and peace; glory, glory Earth and peace;
Glory, glory Earth and peace; and universal love.

From the watch fires of the many circlin' camps are acts uncouth,
Men have builted war an altar with the blood of its own youth;
Let us strive to see the glory in what we must know is truth.
Huzzah!  Peace is marching on.

Men have writ a fiery gospel, burnished rows of steel and tanks,
That have fueled a vengeful fire with all its cruel pranks,
Crushing wrongs with justice brings much more then lasting truth.
Huzzah! Peace is marching on.

They have sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
It is sifting out the hearts of man in battlefields of heat.
Oh, be swift my soul to call for peace  Be jubilant my feet.
Huzzah! Peace is marching on.

In the beauty of the lilies peace will come and make us free;
With a glory in our bosoms that transfigures you and me,
As we cease to send our youths to die, let us live to make them free.
Huzzah! Peace is marching on.

Peace is coming like the glory of a morning sea's bright wave,
With its wisdom strong and mighty make all of us be brave,
To stop the pow'r of war, let's not be its fett'red slave.
Huzzah! Peace is marching on.
